ORSEN Developmental Team Meeting in Austria

Delegates from each partner country attended the developmental team meeting in Austria on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th May 2011. The objective of the ORSEN project is to develop the first open access Special Education Needs virtual classroom thus enabling any student with access to a computer to avail of personalized structured learning programs that address their specific needs within a formal classroom setting. During the developmental meeting, the partners discussed the most appropriate options for curricula development for the target group. The partners also discussed in detail the preliminary results of the research report from each of the partner countries.

The findings and recommendations are in alignment with the key principles of the European Agency for Development in Special Needs Education (2009) report. These principles are:

  1. Widening participation to increase educational opportunity for all learners
  2. Education and training in inclusive education for all teachers
  3. Organisational culture and ethos that promotes inclusion
  4. Support structures organised so as to promote inclusion
  5. Flexible resourcing systems that promote inclusion
  6. Policies that promote inclusion
  7. Legislation that promotes inclusion.

Therefore, the project will aim to address the needs identified in the partner countries, taking into consideration the aforementioned principles.
